What’s making me happy right now

Firefox 3 RC1 + Nightly Tester Tools plugin (makes most of my incompatible plugins work again). There is an about:config hack that sort of does the same thing but for some reason that didn’t work for me at all on Windows (the browser would crash without even launching). Sounds crazy, but I’m also using the Flash 10 beta with it, and everything is smooth and speedy.

Your own mileage may vary, but so far it’s greatly improved my online experience. Our connection to the net tends to be a little tenuous and sluggish in nature (for a broadband connection that’s supposed to be 3mb down but can dip well below the 1mb mark at times), but you’d hardly know it now. It’s at least as fast as Safari, and I haven’t been crashing like usual on either my Leaopard or Windows XP installations.

I was very happy to learn that Flash 10 is (and will be) available on ALL platforms simultaneously. I remember waiting for some usable version of flash 9 to be released for Linux back when I first experimented with Ubuntu a couple years ago, it was incredibly frustrating. I’m a bit of an OS bigamist, so multiplatform support is kinda a big deal to me.

The big test will be when I watch this weeks Coronation Street episodes on the CBC website. Usually, I try to start the forth or fifth ep and the browser just crashes, despite my efforts to clear the cache after each one. Wish me luck!

Update: It still crashes after watching 4 of 5 episodes, oh well. Probably something to do with the website itself eh? :D

Cute as a button (a button pendant that is)

A wirewrapped pendant, made from buttons!

Cute as a button

I did this for a friend who was staying with us (after she bought this wicked big bag of assorted buttons on an art supply run). It was terribly fun and simple to make, so I’m going to be doing a lot of them methinks. They will be available for sale, I just don’t know where yet.

I’ve got more stuff to post but it’s not quite done yet. If you’d like to follow me on Deviantart and possibly see some of it before I put it up on the website, you’re more than welcome. :) I threw a new sketch into the scrapbook that I’m rather happy with. I screwed up the positioning of the subjects in it a bit so I’ll be tweaking it digitally.

Now if I can get at least one piece of writing done this weekend I’ll be on a roll!

Tweaking navigation

I’m reorganizing some navigational stuff at the moment to try to clean things up a little. Yet again, I was experiencing difficulties with a flickr plugin (a totally different one this time) and so had to change all the jewellery gallery pages again. They now all link to flickr set slideshows. It’s not a perfect solution, but it’ll hold for the moment.

A while back I bought the domain theweejennydesigns.com, and I’m thinking about using it. I can’t decide how though. It could be an art and design blog, or the storefront that I’ve wanted to put up for so long, or both. I’m trying to think of ways to separate all that content from the generalized “bloggy” types of posts and site update posts and so forth. I’m going to be doing more of the art stuff and I really want it to be prominent, as that was the original point to having the site really.

It’s a tricky decision. I like the domain but “shop.theweejenny.net” seems a bit simpler, and doesn’t sound bad either, so that might be better as far as store fronts go. Then again, this domain sounds more like “here’s my online resume/portfolio” than it does an artist’s site.

Anybody have any suggestions? I’m kinda going in circles on this.
